The world uses a lot of crude oil everyday. Soon the worlds oil supply will run out. No one is sure how much oil is left but scientists think there is only about 2.6 trillion barrels of oil left. The United States has only 4 percent of the worlds population but uses about 25 percent of the worlds oil supply. The U.S. economy is more energy efficient than it used to be. There is some oil in blocks of marlstone or oil shale. The western United States has large deposits of oil shale. It is very difficult and expensive to extract the oil from the oil shale. Oil provides 40 percent of the worlds energy. There are two groups of oil suppliers which are OPEC and non-OPEC. OPEC stands for Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The OPEC members are Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Venezuela, Nigeria, Algeria, Indonesia, Libya, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The non-OPEC members are the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, Norway, and Russia. There are many ways to use less oil. One way to cut down on oil is to use the Minicat car that runs on compressed air instead of gasoline which contains oil. Another way to cut down on oil is to install the most efficient heating, lighting, and cooling systems in buildings.

The Ottoman Empire lasted from 1299 C.E.-1922 C.E.. It was a Turkish empire that spread across three continents. The three continents it spread across and controlled was North Africa, the Middle East, and most of Southeastern Europe. The Ottoman Empire controlled a lot of different lands, such as Turkey,Syria,Palestine,Arabia, and Egypt. The Ottomans began to call themselfs rulers of a “Universal Empire.” The Ottoman Empire was the only Islamic power to challenge the rising power of Western Europe between the 15th and the 19th centuries. The Ottomans conquered Constantinople in 1453 C.E. and renamed the city calling it Istanbul. Istanbul became the capital of the empire.
The empire soon became weak. The Ottoman Empire entered World War 1. In the war the Ottoman Empire sided with Germany which was a big mistake because they sided with the losers. The Ottoman Empire was forced to give up large amounts of land because the Central Powers were defeated. In 1919 all that was left of the Ottoman Empire was Turkey and the rest of the empire was divided up by Britain,France, and Italy.
